Looking Better Tech Networking Hobby

In my days of being a teenager. I used to buy wiring, connectors and stuff like that to help me connect to the Internet. Purchasing a long wire 20m long and connect it from one part of the house to the other end and set it up. It was hard work but worth it.

Then you had these problems in the household, like someone would hijack your phone line and I've even had a case where I had an annoying uncle staying over my place and wouldn't see my hard work in setting up a phone line to the internet and showed me no respect even when he should of knew.

There would be time where I would lash out. 'Get off the F***ing phone if you can't get set your phone line' or 'what the f**k is he doing?'

It's nice to know that the telephone companies want to make their service cheaper and provide and connect all that equipment up as well as providing a telephone service aswell, as it sorts that problem out. I just miss that hard work in getting that wiring in the house hold and setting it up myself. Now that's gone. No more plugging wires into phone sockets and no more buying wires of that sort. It's going to slowly move onto televisions and mobiles. It doesn't feel like the hard work thinking about it as someone else is going to do it. (maybe the robots in the future)

However networking between electronics is still important and it just means that I have to do everything I can find to a better hobby in terms of technology networking. It's a good idea to have. There would be times where I would use my Ethernet from my laptop and connect it to another computer in the house, both running in Vista and transfer files from one computer to another.

A matter of fact, you'll be surprised how many businesses cash-in over the networking part in the home or work place after those technicians set it up, with Microsoft being the biggest example, That's how Microsoft built their company during the 90s and with what they did, people went out of their way to go against Microsoft to tell them that they were evil and someone like Bill Gates became a millionaire.

I mean I can find out so much more stories about this and it goes to show that they've already tapped into what an Ethernet can do.

How Far Are We Going To Be Google Fans?

Google has been hitting the news time and time again, (funny how I'm blogging this on Blogger), they have all this equipment such as the Google StreetCar and the upcoming Google Glass and Google Home Alarm. Then you'll end up getting the Google house or Google Nightclub if it ever happens!

Which makes me ask this question on how we'll ever be such fans of Google. I shouldn't be surprised that the Internet has gone this far, we have companies in Seattle like Amazon opening a retailer now and their fans there and South Korea has all those games and MMOs back in 2009, where some have become retailed packaged single player offline only experiences.

It does feel like Google is slowly entering peoples lives where people are a bit baffled about how the internet affects our everyday lives. Everyone wanting to know what the internet offers and how it affects our everyday life, it's just what people talk about because the people I talk too, simply don't know and it bothers me aswell, but I shouldn't be so scared of it.

China's not so quiet about their internet enterprises aswell, you know where I'm going with that. I just have to remember that Google is just a internet company that wants to make the most out of the Internet. They wouldn't be the biggest retailer like Walmart as they get their ideas on how to run a retailer from them or the United States Army who enjoys offering protection for the country that could offer support to them. Internet firms wouldn't be a company without other sector companies and would never over take them. It's nice to have an internet company that very powerful after seeing that some country like China wants to emulate that sort of enterprise, because I think that's how powerful Google is, if everyone talks about it.

The Mistake Almost Indie Website Developers Makes

A mistake I made when developing a website only to find that EVERY indie website developer makes . You think with visual basic and some simple line of code would take your website of the ground? Think again. Here's one mistake I opennly admit that I've made, only to find that Google is serious about their line of work.

During the late 90s, when I was around 13 or 14, I was amazed with how lines of code can build a website but when it comes down to ideas, I didn't have any. Now in 2014, I still have no ideas, so I still went around conception what I could do with the code and the potential I have.

The common and popular idea people have is to gather ideas from those big companies with those big ideas. So here's the (terrible) idea I had. Let's make a webpage with a search bar and button and have that page link to Google's search results and program everything to make search easier..

So I went and tried it, I even went online and searched on how to get the code for it to try and get a search engine running on my website, because I'm not that good at coding at the moment, only to find an online forum where people are asking the question on how to get a search engine running on their website.

That's not even the end. I went and found that Google has provided something like that for other websites. They've provided a service where you can have a Google bar onto your website or to search any other website in greater detail, which can be found here: https://www.google.com/cse/all

Google clearly thought about this and seen what's heading their way. I have to admire the fact that Google have thought about it, so it does make me wonder how far Internet Search has gone into and why Google wants to share the idea of providing a custom search engine. (not money)

A matter of fact, why do people follow Google to get this idea and information? Why not Yahoo or Bing? People go straight to Google! (saying this out of embarrassment). We're all going to Google, so clearly Google is making the most out of it people heading their way.

As Google provides such a feature, they also provide a service where you can have you own and even run it aswell, they even pay you if you opted up to purchase and make money out of it, with ad streams, if you are willing go that far into getting the custom search engine.

Surprised that Amazon Wants The Hotel Industry?

It's been reported that Amazon wants to set up a website to manage hotels. Am I surprised? I had a theory that Google was going to manage Nightclubs in the future. I shouldn't be surprised if Amazon wants hotels, as they've set up an Amazon store in New York, so why wouldn't they?

I wouldn't be surprised if those big companies are hitting those bigger building industries. I suppose they're just having fun.

Youtube's Advert: TheSlowMoGuys

I'm sure I don't need to say much about this, who would of thought Google would pay other websites to display their ads, considering Google gets most of it's revenue from displaying other adverts, they decide to take it upon themselves to release ads on other websites.

It's advert itself it actually very well done, the advert asks you to hover your mouse and your mouse cursor changes to the side arrows which usually appear when you move your mouse over the windows size, to resize the window, however in this case, dragging your mouse from size to size actually plays animation, as you can see, from TheSlowMoGuys footage. It's a one of a kind advert, hence why I'm also keeping it.

It's a keeper.

PS: I'm not sucking up to Google. I hope this blog post doesn't come this way.

New Jersey Looking To Gamble Using Online Social Games

It's been reported that New Jersey is looking into use social games like Candy Crush to make gambling casino machines. It comes from the success of the major social game, Candy Crush Saga. This is nothing new. During the late 90s, Slingo was popular enough to be made into a casino machine, however it was during the age where the Internet was scared enough that not many people used it. Now in 2014 with the age of gaming devices and browser based game, some folks out there are looking to cash into the success of internet distributed gaming.

The Amazon Game Service Try Out!

I'm glad the Amazon game service is around, however the same could be said about all the other game services out there, such as Google's one. Google has stepped up to unveil their Nexus. A gaming console which runs Google's firmware.

I've taken a chance to try out the Amazon gaming service. It's not that bad. I was able to find a few games to blow some money on. I was always a fan of the Commandos series when I was a teenager and given away the discs to a friend, so I taken the time to buy the games on the Amazon services.
It's really nice to see Amazon have their own client to allow people to download games. It's always been this way for many other companies early in the decades. It's really professional. Should I be surprised? Microsoft are also based in Washington state, a few miles away from Amazon, so clearly someone offered their skills to make this happen.

Now people are just going to wait until Amazon makes a video game, just like how Amazon have started making their webs shows with their studio.

Gone to play Ultima Online

Utlima Online was released during the late 90s. Considered to be one of the popular RPG games during the 80s, they made an MMO out of the game. The game has it's famous stories including the ever popular legend of Rainz who actually killed the game designer, Lord British, which was widely talked about. It's moments like this that make MMORPG's worth while.

Ultima Online has gone a long way in what it's been made, it's actually went the full length to make an enchanted version with a better user interface. You can download them both. It's interesting how I can download two clients which different features of the game (which I've screen and posted above). I like it for many reasons because it shows how far MMOs have become and it gives player a choice in what kind of interface they want.

Hopefully I'll go far into this game and live to talk about it.

Amazon Set To Open Retail Store In New York

Set to open for Christmas, this is big news and I think it's shows that we've come along way in the Internet Age to show off what the entire world could do when they use the Internet. Amazon is a major online shopping website and it shouldn't be surprising that they've set to open a new retail store in New York, however it comes as a surprise in my opinion because Google been out there selling their news of the Google Glass and Watch, however it can wait.

Amazon Studio Sent Me Promo DVD

A promo DVD arrived in a post to me just a few weeks ago. It was sent because I've been a Lovefilm customer for a long time.

In where I live in England, DVD rent-by-post service Lovefilm has been recently taken over by Amazon. Since then, Amazon via Lovefilm sent me a promo DVD with first free episode of three series aimmed for kids. Of course, these episodes are free on Amazon's website which they've also promoted. I think it's very interesting that Amazon used the Lovefilm post this way to send me a freebie promo DVD. Of course, it's common now to print digital media on DVD and sell or give them away as physical copies of such prints are becoming increasing common in the industry.

I just think it's a shame it was kids shows. They must of thought that I had kids but being in my late 20s, I was even somewhat hooked onto the shows that were sent. I've attached the image of the DVD above.

Microsoft Outlook Introduces 'Undo'

Along with the Sweep button and the new theme and email service, Outlook, which Microsoft have provided over the years, they've introduced the 'Undo' button to the masses. Now everyone can take it easy in recovering emails which they've already deleted and want back. It's nice to see Outlook go a bit easy on managing emails, seeing that there mainstream e-mail service has been around for years.

My Thoughts on Annoying Norton AntiVirus

I didn't ask to sign up to Norton. I was more of a PC Tools person and it looked like Norton went out of their way to purchase PC Tools and Norton is back again on my computer.

I got this error message two weeks ago telling me that I need to download another program to REMOVE the files to PC Tools and it will re-install Norton. It's an 'Error'. It's more like a false alarm then an error. The files they were addressing wasn't a 'virus' but more of files left in the computer and how it's been styled out.

I can understand that the guys at Norton has superior management skills but they've received loads of annoying complaints of neglect. I would rather spend $40 on a blimp in SimCity then put up with Norton. Norton are clearly inventing trade secrets via hazing and I'm just another person who has to put up with it.

My Re-thought on E-mail!

One of the mysteries I've always had was knowing exactly what e-mail is and what it will become. (Yes, in 2014, someone explaining what e-mail really is!), As clumsy as it may come across, the truth is that I'm one of those folks who signed up of an e-mail account because it was simply 'cool' to have one.

E-mail isn't so bad. It's just went someone labels e-mail as 'cool', like Hotmail (the clues in the name, you just have to have it because it was 'hot'), when you end up thinking

That's what the generation of 95 to 2001 did. Everyone taken care of their e-mail addresses, where they actually were careful handing their e-mail addressed out to someone and making sure they got the right messages. They even send their friends e-cards or e-something to each other, because it was much quicker to do so at the time, compared to letters and telephone.

Unfortunately this level of care, what I'm led to believe in those annoying chain letters, which made threats like closing your e-mail account if you don't send the email to 10 of your friends or someone will die tonight if you don't forward it to your best friend in time and etc because they were your friend and cared about it. That's emotional blackmail at it's finest of it's day and a bit scary thinking about it, considering that there were people who lead that kind of stuff.

It's nice to have an e-mail, maybe just for personal use, finding ways to to litter your e-mail accounts newsletters. Interesting how signing up to other services work to get invoiced and confirmations and all sorts and the whole process is automated. You may aswell sign up too loads of news letters but many companies are taking it, not so easy on that, forcing you to hand over your personal details and having an account with them.

Messages from friends are rare, I like having people around me and sent texts and whatever now mobile phones have text messages and etc, I just think people grow out of email much quicker because the amount of value isn't there compared to everything else and I do think e-mail gets de-valued alot because of e-mail scams, phishing tricks and spam.

How far the email service will go will be beyond me, I just know with all this competition, eventally each service is going to have something unique to sell itself on, just like the 'Sweep' button from Microsoft's services, that they've keep renaming from time to time, which is useful and I use it once in a while and then one day (like in 10 years time, but I'll be surprised if it sooner then I thought it was), maybe one service will start asking for money over e-mail accounts because the value is there. It's rather scary thinking about it that way.

My Thoughts on the British OS System

Being from Britain, one of the more interesting software that have come out of Britain is the Ubuntu software. It's an free OS which allows people to power up their computers however it's no Windows with the startbar, it's has less freedom and it lacks the freedom to get the programs to run. Maybe because they think video games are a waste of time and effort to manage (it's true and they think like that).

I do think they're over-the-top aggressive and almost becoming another one of these tech-companies that's plastering their trademarked logo on anything you can buy, it's something that Washington state-based Real Networks did before the dot.com bubble bust in an effort to get people to download their Realplayer and somehow they're managing to survive despite the little activity.

I'm not going to lie, I'm a fan of Ubuntu, one of my hard drives has the destkop operating system however I barely use it because most of my work is done on a Windows OS ran software and I do think it's a shame because it has a very mellow feel to it to make computers feel more accepted now a days, maybe another time.

Maybe the folks in Asia will take on Ubuntu and work with it a bit more. Ubuntu has already got a market of South-Korean ran smartphones that already run the software and are already being taken on board and are successful in the smartphone market. I do think the Chinese feel bombarded with the amount Windows has put out with some of the things I've seen.

The State of Public Chat

Hello, my name is Derek. I want to post about public chatrooms. I think it's interesting, I've been using them and taking part off and on since 1998 with Microsoft's approach of allowing people to use chatrooms. What interests me and also doesn't gel with me is the demise of the Microsoft chatrooms in 2003. This is mainly due to paedophiles who use the chatrooms (Source: BBC News) or scammers and stuff like that for Microsoft to shut their chat service down.

I actually miss using public chatrooms because it was fun sitting down waiting for someone who I really don't like and finding ways to sort that person out and telling the entire room why that individual is a twat. It doesn't means that it doesn't happen to me. It happened to me as well and I had to put up to it and I'm had my thrills. I've had my fun and settled down.

Having to sit down here and too wait for the very people who've bought chatrooms to the mainstream (Microsoft) to do something to say that public chatrooms while I see people make choices which don't last from time to time, maybe it's fun for a bit but after a while, it doesn't last and people just become bored and chatrooms don't last. Games doesn't help as well. Maybe.

I'm sure people and users still enjoy chatrooms, I'm not going to recommend any because I do think it defeats the choice people make when visiting a chatroom and considering that Google is there. I'm actually been in one or two very terrible chatrooms that were mistakenly put on top of the Google search engines and later bumped off which have left community stranded. It's not Google's fault but it's worth drawing up because it's worth pointing out that it's to know that Google are still human. (Trying my best not to suck up to Google on Blogger). I still use a chatroom and doing what I want really and taking the opportunity to make the out of chat as chatrooms do close down from time to time and make the best out of it.

It doesn't mean I'm very annoyed at these chatrooms trying to show off how amazing chats are, it's always best to complain about the source of this frustration I have and that is the Microsoft's web department, who thought putting chatrooms to the mainstream computers was good enough to be closed down back in 2003 and are probably running and hiding with the MSN Network crew as they are popular and having to show them how amazing chatrooms are.
